Interview with Childrens Author: Mary Nethery

Mary Nethery is one of our favorite children's authors! Her books are very worn out books and loved very much in our house. I was so happy to be able to interview her back in February. So when I got the email a few weeks ago asking if I wanted to interview her again I jumped at the Chance! Here is the interview:

1: In the past interview you mentioned you were working on a book about a 12 year old with a passion for animals, my oldest was wondering how that is going and if you have a title or release date for it yet?

How darling and sweet of your daughter to remember and ask about Peril in Paris! Yes, I’ve completed the novel and now my agent will be sending it off to editors. The main character, Remy Hicks, has a cat named Dash. I wonder where that idea came from?!

I’ve included a photo of Dash that appears in Remy’s Photoblog. The name of her blog is A Fresh Thought from the Universe.

 what a pretty cat!

(note to self I really need to get Peril in Paris for my oldest! This book is right up her alley!

2: My youngest loves all your books and was wondering what are some of your favorite animals and what is the one animal you'd love to write a book about?

I’ve never known an animal I didn’t love. I love cats, dogs, tigers, lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, every animal you can name! Every book I’ve written has animals in it. I can’t imagine writing a book without them. One of my future books that I’m thinking about now will have an elephant in it!

aww her cat Dash looks like our
cat Sock, We miss you so much

3: We are a family that truly believes in the healing powers of pets that is what Nini is about I was wondering what do you think it would be like if Nini was around today?

You are so right! Animals are wondrous creatures. They have the power to heal, to inspire, and to help us become kinder than we ever thought we could be. I think if Nini were still alive today he’d have his own Facebook page and a humongous fan club! He’d probably be sought after just as he was over one hundred years ago. Thank goodness we have cats in our world. Can you imagine a world without animals of every kind? I can’t. That’s one of the things that inspired me to write Peril in Paris, a story about endangered animals, those who poach them, and two courageous twelve year olds — Remy and her best friend Niles who must save the animals by defeating an international poaching ring!

 this picture is so cute!

4: Books are wonderful gifts and we give books all the time this year I'm making storybook baskets for gifts what is a storybook basket you would make if you were making one?

Oh, what a fun question! I always give books as gifts, just like you do! For the picture book crowd, I’d include Martha Speaks, The Owl and the Pussycat, Go To Bed Monster, If Animals Kissed Goodnight, The Three Little Gators, What to Do About Alice, and Dear Mrs. LaRue! I’d also include a stuffed animal and some stars that glow in the dark!

For the middle grade girls, I’d put together a storybook basket filled with exciting and interesting books in lots of different genres, such as The Strange Case of Origami Yoda, Stolen Voices, The Friendship Doll, The Fences Between Us, The Penderwicks, The London Eye Mystery, and Gilda Joyce, Psychic Investigator. I’d include some cupcakes with double frosting and fingernail polish with glitter!

Thank you so much Mary for allowing me to interview you again! We love your books and I have loved the chance to interview you twice! :) We will be getting Peril in Paris as soon as it is released! A perfect book for my animal loving, save the animal girls!
